Car Insurance - Many providers don’t offer courtesy cars

When signing on for your car insurance policy, it might be good idea to read the fine print.

According to research by Defaqto, an independent financial research company, not all comprehensive coverage policies offer a courtesy car under the same conditions, if at all. Research findings reveal that 49% of the policies does not accommodate for courtesy cars at all, while 28% offer it an optional extra for a fee. Less than a quarter (23%) offer s courtesy car as a part of their offer.

The research goes on to show that the courtesy car provision is the most important for the 35 to 45 age group, especially for those with children. In addition, the provision of a courtesy car during repair and during a claim settlement was found to be one of the top 10 most desirable features of car insurance based on the survey.

Given its importance, Mike Powel, Insight Analyst for General Insurance at Defaqto suggests that it is always a good idea to shop around to ensure that their policy offers a courtesy car and an affordable price.

Consumers must be aware of the provider's courtesy car provision, he adds, as finding out the lack of such provisions when one is needed can be very costly, especially if a car is needed to be hired for a customer's day to day activities.
