Motorists prefer more economical cars

According to Swinton motor insurance, of the 2,200 customers that the company managed to survey, about 57% of them revealed that fuel economy in a car is of great importance when faced with the decision of buying one.

Steve Chelton from Swinton believes that taxes act as the main influence when people think of purchasing a car. He said: “It's not surprising that there is an increase of people who are seeking out fuel-efficient cars. The added benefit of good fuel economy is low CO2 emissions and as car taxation is based on CO2, reducing emissions also brings many benefits, including free road tax.”

Swinton offered motorists a list of cars that have low fuel consumption, among which the Prius and the Vauxhall Corsa appear to be the most popular although the most economical car on the list is the 85.6mpg Smart Fortwo. The Audi A3 with the 1.6 liter engine and the Fiat Punto Evo multijet are also selling good but they come low on the list. There also is a Skoda that is environmentally friendly, the new Fabio Greenline which does 83.1 mpg – definitely a great choice for people who are interested in low fuel consumption.

Most Britons look for more economical cars because of money shortages and huge taxes, but there are people who only choose to buy an economical car for its main purpose - that of cutting down the levels of carbon dioxide that is released in the air.

There is more to economical cars than just fuel efficiency and people know that low level emissions immediately lead to low tax rates. Some cars can benefit from free road tax, such a case being the Toyota Prius. Road tax rates are the motorists’ nightmare so purchasing a Prius or a Vauxhall Corsa can wake many motorists out of this nightmare and really get to enjoy their cars. Petrolheads may not agree entirely with these cars, but the environment as well as many tight pockets will surely welcome them.
