Virgin Media 50Mb Broadband customers on the rise
Published: July 29th 2010
Orders of super-fast 50Mb Virgin Media broadband is on the up among British consumers.
Virgin Media, one of the major British broadband providers, has announced a significant increase in subscriptions for its 50Mb fibre optic cable based broadband services.
The Telecommunication giant’s second quarterly report for 2010 showed a 28% increase in super-fast broadband customer base. The total number of subscriptions for its 50Mb last quarter stood at 74,000.
Virgin noted that the popularity of its service owes not only to the very high speeds on offer, but also due to the availability of the fibre optic network to a large proportion of the UK population.
A Virgin Media spokesperson claimed that its 50Mb service is “already the fastest widely available broadband in the UK,”, and that the planned deployment of 100 Mb broadband network in the fourth quarter of 2010 is still on track.
Virgin Media had announced the launching of its 50Mb service in Crumlin, a village in south Wales earlier this week.
The project will make the broadband service available to households through overhead electricity cables.
