Nokia is to produce its first Android smartphone, with an announcement of the named Nokia 6 made on Sunday. The device will be launched in early February at the Mobile World Congress Event.
Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer, HMD Global has commented on the release, indicating this is just the beginning, “the Nokia 6 marks the first step on our journey, with more to come in 2017,” he said.
The phone will be in the mid-range price category at approximately $245 due to its 1,699 yuan and its design and function features. Does this mean the brand is back in the game and moving with the times?
5 interesting and noteworthy features of the Nokia 6:
The Nokia 6 comes with a 5.5-inch full HD display – an imperative for mid-range smartphone displays. With the price in mind, the full HD display enhanced by 2.5D Gorilla Glass seems fair. A polarizer layer on the display section of the phone should ensure enhanced readability in sunlight, according to the company.
The promised 64GB internal storage seems price appropriate and 4GB RAM seems on the mark – as a result gamers should expect a good performance. Extra memory space is available via a MicroSD card, helping the phone compete with the likes of LeEco Le2.
The Nokia 6 comprises a 16-megapixel camera to the rear (with f/2.0 lens and phase-detection autofocus) and to the front an 8-megapixel camera (with f/2.0 84-degrees wide angle lens). The camera specs are comparable to companies including LeEco, Xiaomi and Vivo.
The device boasts dual Dolby Atmos speakers that have in-built dual amplifiers - delivering sound that is 6 decibels louder than average amplifiers.
The Nokia 6 compares with Samsung’s Galaxy 7 with its delivery of Android Nougat, which will make it up to speed with Android devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S7 – a big improvement from the originally attempt by the Nokia X.
Where the device cannot boast however is in its low-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor and its limited market availability geographically – with news from HMD that Nokia 6 is only bound for China.
