Sky has yet to reveal the 2018 date for the release of their premium Q TV service, but they have announced that it will operate through a broadband connection which means that they will abandon the sky dish. However, is this announcement a smokescreen to deflect attention from their latest price increase?
SKY Q operates through the internet in order to stream on demand and catch-up content. At present it requires dish installation which some people are unable to get because of planning restrictions in their area, or they don’t want because it’s simply unattractive.
Providing a dish free Sky Q option will assist in expanding their reach, but that is all that has been revealed about their latest venture.
Since it is available through broadband, it would only make sense that current sky broadband customers were given exclusive access ahead of everyone else. Similar to what happened when SKY mobile was introduced in 2016.
That all sounds like good news, but the bad news is that whether customers choose to have a dish or not, SKY is about to put their prices up!
By March 1, line rental is going to increase by £1.59 per month from £17.40 to £18.99. These changes are going to affect all SKY customers, but those with a legacy account are facing a possible £3 a month increase.
SKY has justified their price rises by claiming that they are committed to enhancing the user experience through better technology, screen line up and customer service.
In SKY’s defence, such price increases appear to be the norm in the world of telecommunications, BT hiked their prices up last week.
