Virgin Media has beaten off all its rivals to take first place when it comes to the award for the UK’s fastest broadband provider according to new figures released by broadband.co.uk. The latest findings from the independent broadband analyst show that Virgin provides speeds of 7.426Mbps, ensuring an easy victory. Be Broadband and O2 trailed in at joint second place with 5.143Mbps.
Thousands of UK connections are tested each month, then evaluated and compared year-on-year. Virgin Media also matched the year-on-year 22% improvement, but was beaten by Plusnet and BT with 28% and 24% respectively.
The latest figures also demonstrated an overall year-on-year increase in broadband speeds, with speeds increasing from 3.67Mbps in 2008 to 4.478Mbps in the same month of 2009.
