More than one million dwellings across the UK have now access to a high speed broadband connection. The 100mb connection offered by Virgin Media has grown exponentially. The company people have put together a plan for the middle of next year, a better service that involves the fastest broadband connection which will be available in the country.
Virgin Media’s service is as it is, the fastest available internet service, with competition coming from the British Telecom (BT). BT offers only a 40Mb bandwidth as a best option available, while Virgin is flourishing in UK’s internet market with an offer of 10mb bandwidth above BT’s.
The executive director of Virgin Broadband has his hopes up and said, “When we finish the roll-out of 100Mb across our network, half the country will have access to ultrafast broadband. That’ll be six years ahead of EU targets.” The company will try a bold move for the next years, a move that involves a massive growth from 1 million to 30 million contracts across the UK. Although all this might look ‘eye candy’ to any internaut, the cost for such a service is considerable. The monthly 100mb bandwidth service can leave you £35 short, and that is only the flat rate for the internet connection.
An entire package containing both the internet service and a phone line can reach £77.99. There is a £30 fee for installing the service in your home and also a £12.99 cost for the phone line. Costs may rise in the case in which you already have installed a BT phone line and you wish to fuse it with the current internet contract from Virgin Media. The monthly fee reaches then £45. Most people have opted for the £12.50, 50mb bandwidth.
Virgin Media’s goal of reaching 30 million contracts looks doable. The company plans to already grant they services to 13 million houses until the middle of 2012. Broadband connection will take hold of the whole UK in a short amount of time.
